Congratulations to Jepson & Co for winning our Employer of the Year 2018 award! Their apprentice, Aaron Robinson, had a lot of positive things to say about his experiences with the team, and we're happy to award them our Employer of the Year prize.
Becoming an apprentice at Jepson & Co is one of the best decisions of my life. From day one, the company has gone out of its way to invest time, money and resources in me and develop me as a person as well as to benefit the business. Starting a full time apprenticeship was quite daunting at first but the company has gone above and beyond to ensure I’m happy, safe and comfortable in my job and this includes both management and fellow employees. The company prides itself on caring for all members of staff and being an apprentice is no exception to this rule. Every colleague has been keen to welcome me into the business and share their knowledge with me to ensure I’m as comfortable in the workplace as possible.
As well as being employee focused, the company takes training and personal development very seriously. From the outset, the company has made it clear that I can take as much time as I need to ensure all my diploma work from Baltic is complete to an excellent standard. If I’m struggling with something or unsure, they go out of their way to ensure they provide as much support as necessary and that I have everything I need to complete all coursework effectively. Not only this, they are also very focused on developing my technical skills. After being given a training record log, I had regular one to one training sessions to ensure I had all the skills required to fulfil my job as an IT Support Technician. I thought after gaining all the required skills to complete my normal day to day job, my development would slow down and I would just continue doing the same job every day – how wrong I was! The company continually goes out of its way to include me in a variety different tasks and projects to ensure I am constantly learning new skills, this includes tasks such as Windows Server administration and software testing, both of which wouldn’t normally be covered in my role but shows a dedication from the company and in particular my managers Alan and Iain, to ensure constant progression of my skills. Not only this, but they have also offered me a new role to further incorporate new responsibilities and develop industry-wide skills as SharePoint development and SQL reporting.
Overall, I can’t thank the company enough for what they have done for me. Not only have they developed my technical skills and abilities, but they’ve developed me as a person. I’m now more confident to take on new challenges and not be afraid to fail, to engage and communicate with people more effectively and have opened my eyes to the exciting and ever-changing industry of IT. Their commitment to investing in me and my future is far greater than I ever could have imagined and I genuinely believe they deserve the recognition for being the great employer of apprentices that they are. Thank you Jepson & Co!
