Congratulations to Calvin Reid from Northgate Vehicle Hire for his continued hard work! He will be receiving £50 in high street vouchers.
Calvin joined Northgate Vehicle Hire September 2015 and is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through the Baltic Apprenticeship.
Calvin came from a none IT background, but he came across as professional and with the desire to learn that we were looking for.
Since then, he has gone from strength to strength, completing both the level 3 and level 4 courses with flying colours as well as self-tutoring in his own time, mastering Powershell just before bedtime!
Calvin has been involved and led many projects within Northgate, especially in the realm of automation, where he has been tasked with taking many of the Service Desks “busy” tasks and streamlining them using his own developed tool kit. He is able to confidently propose solutions to his peers and discuss difficult issues calmly.
When not focusing on improving key aspects of the business, his keen eye for detail and problem solving has been a key part in the performance of the Service Desk for the rest of the business. Winning many awards and nominations for his can do attitude and customer service skills.
Balancing all of this together has led to his next great achievement; promotion to Infrastructure Analyst. Against candidates from both external sourcing, and in house competition, he passed the interview with great success and became a perfect of example of what can be achieved through an apprenticeship with the right commitment and mindset.
It has been a delight to see both Calvin, and his co-workers, progress over the past 2 years and we wish Calvin all the best in his new and exciting role. I look forward to seeing the fantastic improvements he brings to Northgate as a whole.

Tommy has developed both his technical and personal skills enormously since joining the Foundation. His apprenticeship assignments are always to a high standard, but it’s his development in the department itself that is most impressive. Over the past couple of weeks our Senior Technician has been on paternity leave which has meant others in the department are having to cover. Tommy has taken it upon himself to learn many tasks the Senior Technician is responsible for (telephone system configuration, access control management etc) and has performed them to such a high standard. He has covered most of this persons work single-handedly and is always looking for a new challenge. He is constantly making sure the IT helpdesk tickets are responded to and completed, and has closed the most amount of tickets for the past couple of months. He is also developing his personal skills and has provided support for several important talks and presentation at the Foundation. This involves liaising with the organisers before the event to make sure everything is prepared and runs smoothly. I strongly believe Tommy should receive the apprentice of the month award, not only for his outstanding work this month but for his progression since joining us.
I feel Rowan fully deserves to be Apprentice of the month, he is now in his 2nd year apprenticeship with us and has always shown the right skills needed for the job. He has been nominated in the past but not won yet, but feel the time is now right for him.
Throughout his training with Baltic his pass marks have always been excellent, and he has just told me that he was told he has just achieved one of the best ever pass marks!
Having gained a promotion last year from Workshop technician to first line support technician just shows how far he has come and also shows what he can achieve going forward, he always takes things in his stride no matter the job he undertakes and achieves the end goal.
He is always early for work, never late and if needed stays behind to get the job done. If needed he is always first to volunteer for the jobs know body wants!
There are certain things Rowan can improve on, but feel that is the same with anyone. He takes this onboard and strives to improve all the time. He fits into the team here at SBK with ease and it seems like he has been here forever. He is always upbeat and can brighten the dullest day.
Because of all of this, I feel he should be the apprentice of the month.
Reyah joined Whitley Bay High School in September 2016, and from the moment she arrived, we knew we had made a fantastic appointment to our admin team. She plays an integral role in the day-to-day running of the school, providing a front of house service to visitors, taking calls from parents, residents and professionals. It is testament to Reyah’s professionalism that we trust her implicitly in this role - where first impressions really do count.
Reyah approaches new tasks with ease, readily taking on additional responsibilities in both the Finance and Sixth Form teams, demonstrating her ability to transition seamlessly from department to department, with a variety of roles. Her confident, bubbly personality and willingness to learn, are key to her success.
Reyah is conscientious, self-motivated and mature beyond her years. She shows great empathy and recognises when others need a helping hand, always with an offer to assist. Staff regularly ask for support from Reyah with a whole manner of tasks, as her wide range of skills and fantastic work ethic, are evident for all to see.
We are delighted that Reyah has chosen to continue her apprenticeship for a further year with Baltic Training. She is an exceptional role model for the apprenticeship programme.
